  • Marvel.com:Taskmaster enters the House of M in AVENGERS: HOUSE OF M!
Wizard World Philadelphia 2007 - Avengers: House of M
"Marvel has always liked to ask "What if?" Creating alternate worlds such as those seen in the Age of Apocalypse or in the Ultime line, even the smallest shifts in reality can bring about drastic changes. The world of HOUSE OF M was a recreation of the Marvel Universe through the eyes of the mentally plagued Scarlet Witch. Reality was eventually restored and things returned to normal, but we were left wondering how expansive that world really was. Announced at Wizard World Philadelphia, AVENGERS: HOUSE OF M fills in some of the gaps and spotlights characters that we didn't get to see in the original HOUSE OF M mega event. Editors Tom Brevoort and Bill Rosemann, along with writer Christos Gage, tell us whats up with the November-shipping five-issue mini-series."

  • Newsarama:Taskmaster enters the House of M in AVENGERS: HOUSE OF M!
Christos Gage talks AVENGERS: HOUSE OF M and talks about it further in the House of Ideas Marvel Roundtable
"The story takes place over the course of 20-25 years. It starts with the human/mutant war that happened in 1979. Gage was excited that this allowed him to have Cage in his yellow shirt and Misty with a huge afro, “Basically how characters looked when I was a kid, which is how they should be,” he joked. The story will deal with how mutants went from a minority to a majority. There will be an FBI task force that is set up to take down Luke Cage’s criminals that will be comprised of Taskmaster, Blob, Thunderbird, & Punisher. In this world, Frank Castle was able to save his family, but it is still a Vietnam vet, which is why he is recruited as the token human on the team. Kingpin and his assassins are going to be there, as well."

  • Comic Book Resources: CBR also covers this in thier own Marvel Writers Roundtable.
"Gage also explained that the mini will cover time from the end of the war up until the House of M we saw two years ago. He said that it would be explained how mutants become a majority in one generation. Also, Gage said, there will be an FBI taskforce hunting the Avengers team, made up of villains such as Taskmaster and the Blob, but also other characters who might fit into the hero or anti-hero category, such as Frank Castle."

  • Blah Blah Blog
-=motteditor: "OK, obviously without spoiling anything, can you talk about what your doing to make sure the upcoming changes in Thunderbolts don't result in what happened to the faux Exiles in your recent Marvel simulation."
-=Tom Brevoort: "All you've heard at this point at most are unsubstantiated rumors. Until the point at which we actually announce what it is that we're doing, I'm not going to be able to tell you anything substantial. So you're just going have to wait another few weeks, until we're ready to talk about it. (But I will tell you that the cast of characters seen at the end of CIVIL WAR #4 is not precisely the cast that'll be in the series.)"

..:: Taskmaster enters Civil War ::..
  • Newsarama: Civil War Room 4: Marvel Editor Tom Brevoort and CIVIL WAR writer Mark Millar talk THUNDERBOLTS.

-=Newsarama: "And the big reveal for this issue - the new Thunderbolts? Why'd they name them that?"
-=Mark Millar: "Part of the 50 State Initiative involves writers, artists and scientists getting together and rebranding old names and heroes for the 21st century. The new Thunderbolts is the first of these, upgraded to be Avengers class. My idea for these guys is to do an anti-Avengers in a sense. Having the New Avengers as all the big names of the hero community was a huge success so having a Thunderbolts where all the top villains, real world class guys, are coerced into working as a hero team seemed like an obvious idea."

-=Tom Brevoort: "And because they're still the Thunderbolts. This whole team is an outgrowth of what we've seen in the Thunderbolts tie-in issues of Civil War, with a veritable army of super-villains being arrested and recruited into the team's ranks. And as you can see in that last page image, Songbird is there among this particular group of Thunderbolts, to provide oversight and support. "

-=Newsarama: "Still - and setting things up for issue #5 - that the Pro Reg side would go all "Dirty Dozen" on the Anti Reg side…should we be reading a certain, and strong (albeit quiet) level of desperation on the part of the Pre-Reg side here? "
-=Mark Millar: "Oh yes. Definitely. But they have more plans up their sleeves."
-=Tom Brevoort: "This Thunderbolts plan is also a part of the Fifty State Initiative, and was being put into place regardless of the Anti-Reg guys' existence. It's just that now, with their manpower becoming stretched, the Pro-Reg guys feel a need to roll it out and test it in the field perhaps a bit more quickly than they'd have liked. "

-=Newsarama: "Wrapping things up then - teases for issue #5? As the cover has already been released and shows the Pro-Reg villains chasing Spider-Man, it's obvious that he switches sides... anyone else going with him? "
-=Mark Millar: "All I can right now is that it's quite good."
-=Tom Brevoort: "Well, you should never count your chickens. There's nothing that says Spidey will turn per se, nor anything that says that, even if he should decide to change his stance, that he'll be able to make it out of the building. But the one tease-thing that I can tell you is that you'll find out the identity of Ski-Mask Man. "

  • [NOTE]: Taskmaster joining my favorite title sounds interesting if done right and so far it appears to be going in that direction.
  • [NOTE]: This new group of Thunderbolts sounds like shades of MILLENNIUM VISIONS. Hawkeye, leader of Thunderbolts at the time, forced Taskmaster, Scorpion (Venom), Absorbing Man, Wizard, and other villains to join the Thunderbolts. The text for that entry was written by Bill Roseman... who just happened to return to Marvel last week!

  • Newsarama: New Joe Fridays: Marvel EIC answered a question I had concerning Brian Bendis' comments about Taskmaster in MIGHTY AVENGERS.

-=DragynWulf: In WIZARD Magazine #179, Brian Bendis says the following about MIGHTY AVENGERS: "Taskmaster's absolutely going to happen. Somebody grabbed him recently, so we'll have to let him get some air, but we'll defiantly get to it. It's going to happen." Is he referring to MOON KNIGHT or another title that Taskmaster will be appearing in?
-=Joe Quesada: "I believe Brian is referring to MOON KNIGHT. David Finch and Charlie Huston are really doing a great job with Taskmaster and the handling of the character. I mean, he’s always been a badass, but he’s even more so in MOON KNIGHT".

  • [NOTE]: I completely agree with his comments on Taskmaster in MOON KNIGHT.

    ..:: Wizard Magazine #179: Mighty Avengers ::..
In a recent interview in WIZARD Magazine #179, Brian Bendis and Frank Cho discuss MIGHTY AVENGERS. Here is what they had to say:
-=WIZARD's Ricky A. Purdin: Do you have a favorite Storyline?
-=Cho: "Trial of Hank Pym." It kind of hit me at that right age. And the Taskmaster storyline. Brian, are we using that Taskmaster scene later on?
-=Bendis: Taskmaster's absolutely going to happen. Somebody grabbed him recently, so we'll have to let him get some air, but we'll definatly get to it. It's going to happen.

-=Purdin: Brian, aside from Taskmaster, is there a character you were dying to see Frank draw once you realized he was signed on?
-=Bendis: The first thing you want to do is make an all-female Avengers team. I think his rendition of Ms. Marvel is amazing. There's something about the way he draws her that elevates her to where I want to see her get to, which is an A-list type of superhero.

    "Glories Such As These"
It's never about speed or slick moves or razor-sharp reflexes. It's about what you can take. It's about how much pain you can absorb. How many times you can hit the mat, bloody and dazed, and still get up. That's where glory is forged. That's where one earns the grace of God. Or in this case, Khonshu, God of Vengeance.
