DragynWulf: What are your thoughts about the Taskmaster?
Priest: I don't really have many thoughts about Barney (as my version of DEADPOOL called him, "Barney Toastmaster.") He was obviously a favorite of former DEADPOOL editor Ruben Diaz, who instructed me to use him.
I like the concept, though: Taskmaster would make a *very* deadly adversary, and the crime college is a cool idea.
DragynWulf: Did you enjoy writing the Taskmaster?
Priest: I don't think I ever truly wrote Taskmaster. I wrote a guy who called himself Taskmaster and dressed like Taskmaster, but he never actually used his powers, and he was mostly there to be the subject of ridicule by Deadpool.
And I got his speech pattern wrong, thanks largely to Joe Kelley and Ruben (my main Taskmaster reference was DEADPOOL #2, where Taskmaster was using Big Talk).
I didn't realize how great a following Taskmaster had until I got him wrong. Thing
is, if I used him again, I'd probably pursue my Seinfeld fetish and de-construct Barney a little. It ultimately may not please Taskmaster fans.
DragynWulf: Was it difficult to write the Taskmaster as a character that could duplicate any fighting style that he has watched?
Priest: No. I never had Taskmaster actually *use* his power. Maybe someday.
DragynWulf: Would you include the Taskmaster in a future title your working on, BLACK PANTHER for example?
Priest: Oh, it's possible. And darned likely, someday. :-)
DragynWulf: If you were asked to create some unknown information on the Taskmaster, what would it be? (Example: His mother's name or exactly what he did as a child growing up with Photographic Reflexes.)
Priest: Well, thanks to me, he was briefly a member of the Frightful Four. Does that count? (That was really stupid, and I am so, so, sorry. In my defense: that business was dictated to me by Ruben).
